Rubicene and 5,12-dimethoxyrubicene

Rubicene is a red heptacyclic polyaromatic ring system which has been known for a long time (1). It has an intensive yellow fluorescence and a high ISC rate (2).

Rubicene was studied for its electrochemically generated luminescence (3). Substituted derivatives of rubicene ( R = OMe) have been used as core materials for fluorescing dendrimers (4).
