Methyl 3,5-bis(benzyloxy)benzoate and 3,5-bis (benzyloxy)benzyl alcohol

Methyl 3,5-bis(benzyloxy)benzoate 1 ( mp 69°C) and 3,5-bis(benzyloxy)benzyl alcohol 2 ( mp 80°C) are stable crystalline solids which have been used extensively as the starting material for a convergent synthesis of dendritic ethers (1) and for the total synthesis of cannabinoids (2).
