Resorcinarenes
Resorcinarenes 1 and 2 are polar polyhydroxy host molecules.A review on resorcinarenes has appeared (1). Resorcinarene 1 was used as a core reagent in the convergent synthesis of benzyl ether dendrimers( 2). Compound
2 is lipophilic and binds sugars and other polyhydroxy compounds (3). Resorcinarenes have been used in basic solution as the tetraphenolate to bind ammonium cations with high association contants (4). Furthermore, recorcinarenes are the starting materials for cavitands, carcerands and hemicarcerands (1).
