2,7-Dimethylnaphthalene
Organic Chemistry Division, Laboratory of Supramolecular Chemistry and Catalysis, Faculty of Sciences, Université Libre de Bruxelles, C.P. 160-06, 50 Ave. F. D. Roosevelt, 1050 Brussels, Belgium. 2,7-Dimethylnaphtalene is a stable, white, crystalline solid with a melting point of 95-96°C. 2,7-Disubstituted derivatives of naphthalene are less common in the library of commercial fine chemicals. As a consequence, the development of new synthetic routes to 2,7-dimethylnaphthalene will permit an easy access to a large family of 2,7-disubstituted naphthalenes. The Scheme below indicates a few synthetic uses of 2,7-dimethylnaphtalene from its dibromination with NBS (1,2).
