4,6-Dimethyldibenzothiophene
Substituted dibenzothiophenes have in the past years attracted the attention of several scientific groups. These products, and especially 4-methyl- and 4,6-dimethyl-dibenzothiophene (1) (4-MDBT and 4,6-DMDBT) are the sulfur containing compounds in diesel fuel that remain the ones most difficult to desulfurize (2,3). The elucidation of the hydrodesulfurization mechanism of these refractory molecules could provide new ideas for the design of more effective or selective catalysts (4,5). 4,6-DMDBT and its derivatives have been moreover described to have an odor similar to that of roses and used as additives in the perfume industry (6).
