Se-Methylseleno-L-cysteine
Se-Methylseleno-L-cysteine (SeMC) has potential antitumor properties (1). SeMC is the major selenocompound in selenium enriched onions, broccoli and garlic. In the reduction of chemically induced mammary tumors in rats, SeMC is most effective. Results suggest that consumption of SeMC by humans will reduce the incidence of cancer (2).

Another potentially important application may be the use as chemoprotector against toxic side effects of drugs such as cytostatic agents (1).
